About MITI

MITI is the Medical Interpreters Test on the Internet (MITI), designed to assist healthcare interpreting service managers throughout the country who are responsible for dispatching screened and trained interpreters to serve as the message converter between providers and their NEP/LEP patients.

MITI is a human-proctored and scored qualification assessment for medical interpreters or dual-role hospital employees. MITI assesses their language skills in various areas of medicine such as pediatrics, oncology, women’s health etc. MITI includes sections on interpreter ethics and practices, medical vocabulary, sentence level interpreting, simulated interpreting sessions, and sight translation. Test takers will provide spoken responses via a USB headset and microphone where their speech will be securely transmitted to the Avant Assessment servers and then scored by certified raters.
