I love an engaging lesson, a creative project, or a new tool as much as any teacher. But our conversation with Dr. Le Dinh Bao Quoc on The Multiliterate Mind brought me back to a question worth keeping at the center of all of it: Is the student actually learning?

With more than 20 years of experience in education in Vietnam and beyond, Dr. Quoc invited us to look closely at what students are thinking, understanding, and able to do. As AI makes it easier to produce impressive work, I keep wondering: If language is the foundation of learning, what happens when we outsource the work of meaning-making to machines?

To answer that question, we need to keep listening to learners and the teachers who know them—and looking closely at the learning itself.

In his Eduverse article, “Are We So Busy Improving Teaching That We Forget About Learning?”, Dr. Quoc explores these questions further, sharing his approach to classroom observation and practical ways to make student learning visible. We’re pleased to share it with you here.

We also encourage you to check out the episode where we discuss this topic with Dr. Quoc.
